New Grass

Although the warm weather and sunny days are pleasing to the animals, I think that the thing they most love about the spring is the arrival of fresh new grass. All of the animals (except for perhaps the pigs) tolerate the cold well, but they hate the fact that they have very few fresh green things to eat. With the arrival of spring, blades of delicious green grass are coming up all over the yard. In the afternoon, I have been leading the sheep and goats across the creek to munch on some of the unspoiled grasses growing along the banks. Although they love it and it is good for them, for the first few weeks it is important not to have them over do it and get stomach aches. So after just a short time of eating, they follow me back to the barn and the old hay. Once they adjust to the new diet of fresh grass, they will be able to spend a lot more time eating their fill of greens.
