Apparently They’re All The Rage
If the Brits (notably their celebrities) are buying them in large numbers now, it most likely won’t be long until Americans (and American celebrities not to be left behind) begin to refocus their attention on pigs as pets. The teacup pigs spoken of in the article are bred for their tiny size (hence the name). Our pigs, Finnemore and Chesapeake, are certainly not of this variety, but we’ll take their big, bulky bodies over those fragile chinaware pigs any day.
It should be noted that the article treats teacup pigs as an entirely new development when, in fact, the only new development is that they are now in high demand and by people who are able to easily attract media attention. As far as I know, teacup piglets have been around in some form for years.
Let’s just hope, in light of the fad mentality which induces people to make rash decisions, that all of these new prospective pig owners do their homework before bringing one home. Pigs have a unique nature that needs to be understood, so that both pig and person can be happy with each other.
