Autumn Has Come!
It has been a while. Things really haven’t been added to the blog or the website in the last month or two but hopefully this will change. We will continue to work on adding pictures to the website and get information posted soon.
Here at Piscataway Acres, autumn has arrived. With the cooler weather a lot more time is being spent out with the animals. Don’t get me wrong, during the summer almost every spare moment is spent outdoors. However, as the climate cools, it seems that I am finding more and more spare time. In preparation for the winter, we have been cleaning out the barn stalls and chicken coop. The old bedding goes into the garden for next year. We also have been getting the firewood ready. Although heating your house with a wood stove is cheap and efficient, it is a lot of work!
Autumn is my favorite season. I love everything from the sounds of migrating geese to the smell of a cool morning to the beauty of the foliage.
Piscataway Acres was created in part because of my belief in working with land and animals to be more self reliant, to prepare for the next day, week, or year. This preparation gives me great satisfaction. Perhaps this is the reason I enjoy autumn so much. This season is the time to prepare for the coming winter and harsher weather. Becoming prepared is, for me, what makes life so much fun.
